“Beechwood Farm” Estate
Description of Estate:
Beechwood Farm is a large estate in Westwood, MA that was part of the original Charles Murphy Beechwood Farm and Equestrian property. The property consists of a main house built in 1994, a freestanding carriage house built in 2005, and a freestanding stables/barn built in the 1960’s. Koi pond, fountains, gardens and paths, orchard, post lighting, cobblestone and brick walkways and edging, and other highly refined landscaping features. The design of the grounds, as well as an extensive amount of the interior design work was done by Jamie Morison Designs. The Estate abuts 50 acres of conservation land that is designated “forever wild” by the Town of Westwood and managed by the Westwood Land Trust.
The conservation land was designed by the Frederic Law Olmstead firm and was part of the former Forbes estate polo fields. Beachwood farm has sweeping views of the conservation property and the mature, oak, copper beach, sycamore, river birch and the open meadow. The barn features the original “Myopia Hunt Club” stables for three horses and tack room. The Koi pond is a constant 4 foot depth pond with a state of the art filtration system allowing it to be used for swimming. The property also contains a shaded bocce court. The “Main House” is approximately 9000 square feet of living area consisting of 6-7 bedrooms, including two “master Suites, 6 and ½ bathrooms, a stainless steel “professional chef” master kitchen, a fully built out basement w/kitchen, a sunken living room, Great Room, Library, grand entrance room, mud room, open foyer (with 24 foot ceiling), granite and hardwood floors throughout the first and second floors, Berber carpeting/hardwood floors in the basement and wooden Key West window shutters. The Main house has beautiful moldings and other distinct architectural features. The property has two “suites” that can be used as in-law or extended family quarters and a second fully independent living suite comprised of the second floor of the carriage house. The Carriage House Suite – The carriage house suite is a fully independent dwelling unit consisting of approximately 1200 square feet of living space. Designed in a “Hemingway” style, the suite interior is also patterned after a sailing yacht with high end wooden moldings, wooden window shutters, wainscoting and bookshelves, vaulted ceiling and built-ins, under eave storage drawers, sliding pocket doors and dark oak hardwood floors. The unit consists of a large stone fire placed living room and open kitchen that overlook the Koi pond and gardens with sweeping views of the great lawn, barn/stables and open conservation land, a large Master bedroom with built in book shelves and storage areas, a second small bedroom or study with built-in storage, a beautiful tile bath with a maple and porcelain vanity and an oversized stone walk in shower. The kitchen area features a large island, eating/work area, granite countertops, and all stainless steel appliances, including a professional range, wine cooler, wooden cabinets, and design lighting. The unit features “espresso” stained hardwood oak floors. The laundry room has two high end LG front loading professional washer and dryer units. The unit is approximately 2000 square feet. The unit has a main entrance on the front of the house and a rear entrance. The rear entrance opens onto a private brick and stone patio that overlooks two large fountains, the bocce court and “lilac path” that leads to the orchard and barn. The Main house unit has a private garden/lawn area for the occupant that features flowering trees, shrubs and Kentucky blue grass lawn area.
